Trainees can request base passes for 6 adults who do not already have their own military/DoD ID. Your trainee will submit the request for the six people permitted into the ceremony and the pass will be delivered to those people after approval.  Click HERE for more information.

After the ceremony ends, your Airman/Guardian can sponsor other loved ones on base by meeting them at the Luke East Gate Visitor Center.  Per BMT, this process is slow, and offered on a first come, first served basis without any preference given to visiting family members.

Additional Info for Military/DoD Holders and Children Under 18:

  • Children under age 18.  Children do NOT count as one of the six approved guests and can attend with an adult who has a base pass.  Children under 18 must stay with an adult at all times.
  • Those with valid military/DoD IDs can still get onto base using their current ID and go to the ceremony without being on the trainee’s base pass request list.  Those with military/DoD IDs can also sponsor family/friends on base and into the ceremony. Note that anyone who sponsors someone on base must stay with them at all times.

If you have not received your pass by week 5, contact your trainee via mail or during authorized telephone calls to ensure your trainee has completed the form and mailed your pass to you.

If installation access is denied for any reason, only the trainee may initiate a deviation access request waiver to the installation commander. Please direct any questions to your trainee directly via mail or authorized telephone calls.

Please contact the Basic Military Training Reception Center at (210) 671-3024 or (210) 671-3069 if you have additional questions about base passes.

REAL ID ACT INFORMATION **Subject to Change**
The REAL ID Act was enacted to implement the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation that the Federal Government “set standards for the issuance…of sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses.” The Act prohibits Federal agencies from accepting, for official purposes, driver’s licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the Act’s minimum standards.

However, JBSA Lackland is still accepting all state-issued driver’s licenses for BMT families/friends IF you are on your trainee’s approved VARL list (i.e. you have received a base pass).  NOTE: If you live in one of the affected states your ID might not be accepted at airports and for other types of travel.  It is vital that you check with your airport, etc to confirm.

Click HERE to see the current status of your state in relation to REAL ID and for more information.
