Below is a list of items compiled to help you pack!

Base Passes
Vaccination Card (no longer needed for base access, but bring in case another establishment or airline requires it)
Drivers License or other valid, photo ID (DoD ID, passport)
Black Umbrella (for your Airman in case it rains … you can use whatever color you want)
Lint Roller (for uniform)
Camera
Kleenex
Febreeze (Walmart sells travel sized ones for uniform if around smokers)
Tide To-Go Pen (for if they get anything on their uniform)
Wet Wipes (For hands and other)
GPS system (i.e.: TomTom, Google Maps, cell phone GPS, etc): be sure GPS Is pre-programmed with all addresses you need)
Hairspray
Sunblock
Bug Repellant (especially in the summer)
Chapstick
Sweater
Extra Money (Cash)
Snacks
Chargers For Electronics
Camcorder
Binoculars
Documents: Tickets/Boarding Passes, ID, License, Passport, Confirmation Numbers For, Plane, Car Rental, Hotel, etc. and Insurance Cards (Medical & Auto)
Toiletries
Batteries
Passes Should Go In The Carry-On… Not The Suit Case – Just In Case
Permanent Marking Pen (for signing banner if you want)
Any medication you need
Graduation Gift (not mandatory, seeing you again is the best gift)
Reading material/travel games/cards for plane and between ceremonies
Sunglasses, hat or visor
Map of San Antonio and of the base
Wrinkle release spray (For uniform)
Coat hanger (to hold uniform jacket)

The first 72 hours:

When your son, daughter, spouse or friend arrives at San Antonio’s International Airport, they will be greeted by a BMT Reception Center Military Training Instructor (MTI). Newly arriving trainees are instructed to call home and let family know they safely arrived in San Antonio – regardless if your trainee called you when they first get off the plane.
Your trainee will call again within a 72 hour period of arriving in San Antonio. The purpose of this phone call is to give you their mailing address the trainee will be using for the next 8 ½ weeks.
Please prepare yourself mentally for the call as there is not time to chat and your trainee may seem very stressed or emotional. Rest assured your Trainee is just fine. We highly suggest you have a pen and paper ready during this time period. If for whatever reason you do not get the info (maybe it was too loud or bad connection) please do not panic. Your Trainee will be mailing home a postcard with their address.

All the #s will be numbers given to you by your Trainee. Again, the call is scripted, short and often emotional. Be prepared to just fill in the blanks.
