Bringing your beloved pet to see your Airman graduate may sound like a great idea, but there are a few things to consider.  Namely, is the stress on your pet worth it, where will you stay and what happens when you are away at the events?

Service and emotional support animals are allowed on base.  However, you should call the BMT Reception Center for clarification on if they are allowed at the ceremonies, what to bring and how to make sure your service animal is identified.  That number is (210) 671-3024 or (210) 671-3069.

As for regular pets, here are some of the rules for bringing pets (not service animals):

Pets at no point can be left in a car, even with the AC running.

Pets are not allowed at any of the events.

You are required to bring a valid rabies certificate with you, not just the pet having a tag.

You are responsible for cleaning up all waste left by your pet no matter where you are at on base.

There are no boarding kennels on base, although one on-base hotel is pet friendly.  You must call to see if a room is available and provide all required documents.  For reservation information call (210) 671-3622.

Some local hotels off-base will allow dogs but most say the dogs can’t be left in the room alone.  There are boarding facilities all around San Antonio as well.

Dogs need to be leashed at all times on leashes not over 6ft in length.

Dogs that act aggressive or bark constantly will be asked to leave the base.

***There are breed restrictions on base! Some breeds such as Rottweilers, Pits, Dobermans won’t be allowed on base nor mixes of these breeds.***
